I love smoothies.
I'm also super interested in gut health.
Combining these two interests, I've come up with a smoothie that is not only delicious but also super kind to your gut thanks to the addition of coconut oil, chia gel and turmeric. Make it, treat yourself and let me know in the comments below how you go!
2 cups of coconut or almond milk (make your own or try my fave, Nutty Bruce)
1/4 cup of coconut yoghurt (I like Kubu for it's taste and creaminess)
1 cup blueberries
2 tbsp chia gel
2 tbsp coconut oil
2 tbsp cashew butter (almond is a good choice as well)
2 scoops of protein powder (I like Prana On Vanilla Bean & Maple)
1 tsp turmeric (a turmeric blend that combines turmeric with coconut and black pepper is best to increase absorption - try Love Organic Living Golden Turmeric Blend)
2 big handfuls of baby spinach
1. Add milk, yoghurt, berries, chia gel, coconut oil, cashew butter, protein powder and turmeric to blender.
2. Blend till smooth.
3. Add baby spinach and blend till smooth.
4. Serve and enjoy!
Soak 1/4 cup of chia seeds in 1 cup of filtered water for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Soaking your chia seeds makes them easier to digest and absorb the nutritional benefits including omega 3, fibre, calcium and phosphorus. The gel will keep for about a week in the fridge.
